Saw this article about suburban living vs. city living the other day. The first line is, "For the first time in a century, most of America's largest cities are growing at a faster rate than their surrounding suburbs..."
The article goes on to explain why more people are fleeing the suburbs to live downtown.
Interesting.
Dan, I know that most cities have had a concerted effort in recent years towards urban renewal (and have actually gotten a little bit better at it than attempts in the 70s, 80s, and 90s). I know from looking at Detroit, a city that was in crisis when I arrived at Wayne State (and some would argue still is), is showing signs of life and energy and really changing an image - at least within southwestern Michigan.
ReplyDeleteI've heard that Detroit is making a comeback, after being given up for dead. Probably some outstanding deals on downtown property there if you're a risk-taker.
